Ca’ Foscari University invites applications for a fixed-term position as Assistant Professor in Indology and Tibetology
Ca’ Foscari University Venice is looking for an Assistant Professor of Indology and Tibetology,capable of inspiring students to become game-changers in their own fields and to make a genuine difference in the world.
Teaching activity:
The selected candidate’s teaching responsibilities will include at least 60 hours of curricular and integrative teaching as per Ca’ Foscari University "Regulations for the self-certification and review of teaching and student services of faculty and researchers" in B.A. and M.A. programs offered by the Department.
Their teaching activities will pertain to Indology, Tibetology and/or Archaeology, Art History, Religions and Philosophies of Eastern and South-Eastern Asia. They will consist of teaching Tibetan language and literature and Buddhism, with a specific focus on Tibetan Buddhism:
- Lingua e letteratura tibetana
- History of Tibetan Buddhism (MA level, in English)
- History of Buddhism (BA level, in English)
The selected candidate must additionally be willing to serve as supervisor for students’ B.A. and M.A. dissertations.
Research activity:
The selected candidate will preferably have teaching and research experience in Italy and/or abroad. They will be required to contribute to the Department's research portfolio under the umbrella of the Department’s “Dipartimenti di Eccellenza 2023-27” project, which recognizes the importance of developing the study of Buddhism. The research activities of the selected candidate will contribute to the study of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism’s philosophy and its significance in contemporary philosophical debates. The researcher is required to be able to engage in research on the relevant communities of practice, with special reference to the Tibetan diaspora in India and in Europe.
The position will be hosted in theDepartment of Asian and North African Studies. The Department has received a “Department of Excellence” award by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. The Excellence Award has allowed the Department to receive additional state funding to develop innovative projects for the creation of the Marco Polo International Research Centre (MaP) Centre for Global Europe-Asia Connections. The aim is to foster scientific cooperation at international level on innovative topics such as new religious identities, migrations, climate change and the history of relations between Europe, Asia and the Arab and Islamic world in a Transcultural perspective.
The skills and scientific interests of the DSAAM faculty members cover a wide geographic area from Africa to Japan. The specific fields of interest, often cross-disciplinary, can be divided into four main areas: linguistics, philology and literature; religions and philosophy; archaeology and cultural heritage conservation, figurative arts and performances; history, institutions, economics, society, politics and international relations.
The Department has strong international ties for educational, research and cultural purposes, which result in events, research funding, Joint and Double Degree programs and mobility opportunities for students and staff members.
