Cleanroom technician/engineer

The Department of Physics at Basel University hosts an internationally recognized center for cutting-edge research in the fields of nano- and quantum physics. To strengthen our technical team, we are looking for a reliable personality to fill the position of Cleanroom Technician/Engineer as of February 1, 2022.

Your position
  • Daily maintenance of cleanroom instrumentation (e-beam writers, ICP/RIE etchers, optical lithography systems, thin-film deposition systems, etc.)
  • User-trainings for cleanroom instrumentation
  • Development and optimization of nano-fabrication processes for in-house research groups
  • Assisting and advising students and postdocs in their nano-fabrication activities
  • Conducting process documentation and creating standard-operating-procedures
  • Assuring supply and quality of key consumables (resists, target materials, etc.)
  • Monitoring of safety-measures in close exchange with the department's safety officer
Your profile
We look for a candidate with a professional education in a relevant technical field, ideally on the Master's level (candidates with an apprenticeship or PhD in relevant fields may also be considered). The ideal candidate brings specialized knowledge and at least two years of cleanroom work experience. Furthermore, you bring at least a subset of:
  • Hands-on experience with cleanroom processes such as lithography (e-beam and optical), plasma etching (ICP/RIE), wet etching, thin-film deposition, etc.
  • Background in photonics, or nano-electronics, or materials science
  • Experience with nano fabrication of diamond, van-der-Waals materials or semiconductor heterostructure is a plus
  • Open-minded, solution-oriented, communicative, critical and innovative
  • Ability to work independently and in a team and excellent technical problem-solving skills
  • Working proficiency in English
