The Faculty of Theology at the University of Basel invites applications for the position of Professor of Church History and Historical Theology, starting on August 1st, 2023. Depending on the qualification of applicants, the position will be either filled as Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), Associate Professor or Full Professor.
A founding faculty of the University of Basel, the Faculty of Theology is the oldest in Switzerland. It stands in a tradition of reformation history and humanism, and it includes Jewish Studies as well as Religious Science, with Near Eastern / Islamic Studies being co-opted.

Your position
The successful applicant will carry out research and teaching in all aspects of the subject. The applicant will be open to examining new cultural turns and will devote particular attention to Christianity's historical interrelations with other religions in Europe and across the world. One or more of the following areas of specialization are desirable: 1) late antiquity; 2) Reformation and humanism; 3) the modern era.

Your profile
We are looking for an internationally experienced researcher, qualified in academic teaching and with an outstanding research profile (habilitation or equal qualification, or at least an excellent dissertation) in Church History visible in exceptional publications. You should have a high capability for teamwork and academic supervision, engagement in the acquisition of third-party funding and in academic administration.
