Professorship Gas Turbines and Aerospace Propulsion (W3)


We are looking for an excellent researcher with relevant professional experience and international renown in research of aerospace propulsion or stationary gas turbines. The research is expected to cover sustainable energy conversion and propulsion concepts. The position holder shall expand existing collaborations in both aerospace and energy technology. The predominantly experimentally oriented research activities will focus in particular on stationary gas turbines in energy technology as well as aerospace propulsion systems and their optimal system integration. A unique experimental infrastructure is available for this purpose. In the case of aerospace propulsion systems, research shall include new types of propulsion systems such as hydrogen-powered, all-electric and hybrid propulsion systems, with propulsors beeing distributed or integrated across the structure.

The position holder is expected to raise third-party funds and to initiate national and international collaborative research at TU Darmstadt together with colleagues from different departments. She/He will be an active member of the University Technology Center (UTC) of Rolls-Royce at TU Darmstadt.

The position holder will participate appropriately in the teaching tasks of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes of the Department of Mechanical Engineering as well as interdepartmental degree programmes and develop these further. Active participation in the new English-language degree programme Aerospace Engineering is a prerequisite.

In addition to scientific qualifications, this also requires special didactic skills. Furthermore, the position holder is expected to have the ability and willingness to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis and to participate in university selfadministration. A habilitation or equivalent achievements are required.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “WBesoldung” and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 67 and 68 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
