Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE)

The Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) creates innovative funded research and development projects for the games, animation, VFX, simulation and cultural industries. We embed doctoral researchers into companies to work on R&D projects to support the growth of the UK economy. In 2013 we have 13 fully-funded studentships available. We are looking for excellent Computer Science, Physics and Maths graduates with a passion for research, and forward-thinking companies to partner with.

What We Offer
The CDE is currently supporting 35 projects across animation, games, VFX, simulation and heritage and culture organisations.

Our partners include: Aardman Animation, Electronic Arts, Double Negative, Ninja Theory, Hibbert Ralph Animation, Wonky Films, The National Trust and Conservation Technologies (Liverpool Museums) amongst others.

Academic Partners
University of Bath
The Department of Computer Science is the country's leading provider of fully-supported placements. It has an outstanding international research profile and Bath is ranked 3rd overall in The Sunday Times University Guide 2013.

Bournemouth University
Since 1989 the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) has pioneered innovative programmes in computer visualisation and animation. It was recently awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize 2012 for services to animation education.

Core funding is from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Digital Economy Initiative.
