The Institute of Geosciences, chair of Applied Geology seeks subject to final approval a
Scientific researcher (PhD) position
for a duration of three years as a part-time position (75%, 30 hours per week) starting on the 1. March 2026.
The position in within the project TRANSFER (Training and Research Academy for Nuclear Safety and Future Expertise on Geological Repository Systems), which is jointly funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (BGE). The consortium brings together five Helmholtz Centres and five universities, and is coordinated by the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. Successful candidates within the TRANSFER program will gain a comprehensive perspective on nuclear waste disposal. You will benefit from tailored support, interdisciplinary training, and targeted preparation for careers in academia, industry, or policy and societal consulting.
The research focus in Jena is on the Upscaling of geological heterogeneity at the pore scale using deep Learning (DL) and you will be supervised by Dr. Saeid Sadeghnejad (s.sadeghnejad@uni-jena.de) and Prof. Dr. Thorsten Schäfer (thorsten.schaefer@uni-jena.de)
The advertised position is (initially) offered as a fixed-term position for a maximum of 3 year(s).
This is a part-time position with 75% of the working hours of a full-time employee (30 hours per week).
