The Faculty of Life Sciences seeks to fill the professorship as mentioned above from 1st April 2027.
Academic context
The appointment of this professorship aims to strategically strengthen the research priorities of Leipzig University within its potential and excellence areas “Molecular and Cellular Communication” and “Modern Diseases”. The new professorship is expected to integrate directly into the research focus areas of the Institute of Biochemistry and the faculty’s Center for Molecular Interactions in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (C-MIBB).
Future Duties
We seek a highly qualified candidate with a strong scientific track record who will lead research and teaching in the field of the professorship within the specified scientific environment. The professorship will represent the fields of modern biochemistry and molecular biology in the German-language degree programs B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc. Biology, Lehramt Biology, and Pharmacy, as well as in the Biochemistry M.Sc. program.
The professorship is expected to address current biological and biomedical questions at the molecular level using state-of-the-art experimental and analytical methods and to contribute complementary expertise to the existing research groups at the Institute of Biochemistry. Clear prospects for collaboration and integration into existing and planned research networks, in particular the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1423, are considered important. Compatibility with further research initiatives of the faculty and the promotion of regional, national, and international collaborations are desirable.
In addition, active participation in academic self-governance within the Institute of Biochemistry and the Faculty is expected.
Requirements
International visibility through high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, success in acquiring competitive third-party funding, and a strong commitment to university teaching are expected.
