Job description
At TU Delft’s Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3) group, you will conduct pioneering research in active phased-array radar systems for remote sensing applications. Your work will contribute to societal challenges ranging from weather forecasting and climate monitoring to drone detection, space surveillance, sea-state monitoring, thunderstorm observation, and environmental monitoring.
As an Assistant Professor, you will develop and lead an independent research line in radar remote sensing. You will define a long-term scientific vision and translate it into innovative research projects focused on phased-array radar signal processing, target and clutter parameter estimation, and the use of polarimetric and Doppler information. You will work closely with colleagues across disciplines to advance both fundamental knowledge and practical radar applications.
A unique aspect of this position is access to TU Delft’s state-of-the-art radar infrastructure, including PARSAX, MESEWI and PHARA. You will use these facilities to validate research concepts and contribute to the further development of our experimental radar platforms.
You will build and supervise a team of PhD candidates, mentor MSc students, and contribute to a collaborative and internationally recognised research environment. In addition, you will establish partnerships with industry and public organisations, develop research proposals, and secure external funding to support your research ambitions.
Teaching is an integral part of this role. You will contribute to Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in radar systems and remote sensing, supervise student projects, and help shape future educational programmes.

Job requirements
We are looking for a researcher with a strong scientific foundation, a passion for innovation, and the ambition to develop a leading research programme in radar remote sensing. You enjoy combining theory, experimentation and real-world applications, and you are motivated to contribute to both research excellence and high-quality education.
You also have:
- A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more relevant areas, such as radar remote sensing, weather radar, Doppler polarimetry, array signal processing, or sonar.
- Experience working with experimental systems, field measurements, and real-world datasets.
- A strong publication record in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- The potential to acquire competitive research funding and develop successful research proposals.
- A genuine interest in teaching, supervision, and mentoring students and early-career researchers.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build collaborations across academia, industry, and government.
- An excellent command of English, as TU Delft is an internationally diverse community.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. Conditions of employment
This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE). During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development plan and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12 -18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.
Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.
