About
I am a Lecturer, Researcher, and Coordinator of the Textile Science and Engineering Research Center at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. I hold a Master of Science in Textile Manufacturing (GPA: 3.94/4.0) and a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering (GPA: 3.73/4.0), alongside master’s-level coursework in Material Science and Engineering. Over my academic career, I have advanced from Assistant Lecturer roles at Aksum and Wolkite Universities to institutional research leadership, where I currently oversee strategic multidisciplinary initiatives in functional textiles, sustainable polymers, and bio-nanocomposites. My international research background includes serving as a Visiting Researcher at Tohoku University in Japan within the Graduate School of Environmental Studies and School of Material Science and Engineering. During this appointment, I spearheaded experimental research on nanofiber-reinforced polybutylene succinate (PBS) biocomposites, surface functionalization, thermal/mechanical characterization, and biodegradability assessments using MODA-C-S systems per ISO 14855-2 standards. My core scientific expertise spans biopolymer synthesis, electrospinning, polymeric nanoparticle fabrication, eco-friendly flame-retardant nanocoatings, and advanced surface engineering. Complementing my experimental skills in spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis, I have established a strong publication record comprising over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in high-impact international journals published by Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and ACS. In addition to my research outputs, I serve as a principal researcher on multi-institutional initiatives, including the China-Africa Joint Laboratory on Basalt Fiber and Functionalized Textiles. My contributions to natural fiber extraction and sustainable materials have earned recognition through the Best Researcher Award, keynote invitations at international symposiums, an Affiliate Membership with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and active peer-reviewer roles for journals such as Cellulose and RSC Advances.
