About
Phil Sanger is a performing arts practitioner, researcher and social actor. His work reaches into research, choreography, dramaturgy, and education with over two decades of professional performance experience and ten-plus years in higher education. His practice sits at the intersection of performance, dramaturgy, and life coaching through a lens of queer phenomenological pragmatism which he developed through a Master's degree and an ongoing PhD at the University of Surrey, and supported by funders including Arts Council England, Clore Leadership, English Heritage, and the National Trust. He has raised approximately £500,000 in external funding as principal applicant across a 30+ work catalogue since 2002, held senior academic roles at Northern School of Contemporary Dance including Head of Undergraduate Studies and Staff Governor, and performed with companies such as Phoenix Dance Theatre, Yorke Dance Project, and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company. His work consistently centres communities who are queer, neurodiverse, or underserved by mainstream cultural institutions, and he holds board and directorship roles across several arts and community-interest organisations.
