About
My research area is in Machine Ethics, whereby machines that make/recommend decisions are evaluated for upholding human values and dignity. In this endeavour, I have been:
• Awarded an IRC COALESCE Grant for two projects:
o COTHROM: Computing Thoughtful Rules for Migrants
o Harm2Healing: Transforming Survivor Centred Gender Based Violence Response Using Human Centred AI Agents
• Invited to give talks at: CERN, University of Cambridge, University of Toronto
• Awarded full voting membership of IEEE P7008 – Ethically Driven Nudging for Robotic, Intelligent, and Autonomous Systems
• Invited to be a member of the European Alliance on AI, associated with the High-Level group, which directly advises the EU on critical areas requiring research and funding
To say that AI will affect all aspects of human life and society, is now trite. Machines will increasingly make decisions that affect vast swathes of humanity, from targeting on battlefields, to corporate markets, to personalized health evaluations, and many use-cases that we have not even imagined yet. My research agenda has been focussed on how we can ensure that digital decision-making can always incorporate human values.
