About us
The Nottingham Institute of Crime, Media, Journalism and Justice at Nottingham Trent University is a diverse, supportive and collaborative community of scholars, practitioners and students dedicated to understanding and addressing some of the most pressing issues facing society today. The Institute combines different perspectives to deepen understanding of the complex relationships between crime, justice, communication, culture and social change. Our work is driven by a commitment to intellectual curiosity, social impact and creating opportunities that transform lives.
Recognised for theoretically informed and applied research, we foster an inclusive environment that values diversity, celebrates excellence and encourages innovation. Our teaching is grounded in scholarship, research and professional practice, enabling students to develop both critical thinking and practical skills that enhance their employability and prepare them to make a positive contribution to society.
Engagement with communities, public institutions and industry partners sits at the heart of everything we do. Through our work with the criminal justice system, media organisations, broadcasters and community groups, we connect academic insight with real-world challenges and opportunities.
We deliver cutting-edge journalism and media education supported by industry-standard facilities including a newsroom, digital radio suites, a dedicated television studio, and professional sound and lighting equipment. Through close collaboration with media professionals and industry partners, we help develop the journalists, broadcasters and content creators of tomorrow.
Across all our disciplines, we share a commitment to exploring how societies understand and respond to social, political and cultural change. By combining academic excellence, professional expertise and meaningful engagement with communities and industry, the Nottingham Institute of Crime, Media, Journalism and Justice provides an outstanding environment in which to learn, research, innovate and create.
