The Faculty of Theology seeks to fill the professorship as mentioned above from 01 October 2027.
Academic context
The professorship is central to the profile of the Faculty of Theology at Leipzig University and has a correspondingly prominent tradition. It is part of the Institute of Church History at the Faculty of Theology, together with the soon to be established junior professorship for Modern Church History as well as further research fellows and a secretariat. The existing intra- and interdisciplinary cooperation with other subjects within the Faculty of Theology, with the faculties in the Unibund (Halle and Jena), and with neighboring disciplines of the Faculty of History, Art, and Area Studies, particularly in the field of Saxon Regional Studies, is to be continued, as is the collaboration with the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sächsische Kirchengeschichte” and the “Sächsische Akademie der Wissenschaften”. The Faculty of Theology in Leipzig is deeply engaged in the areas of transfer (churches and society).
Duties
The postholder conducts internationally recognized research on the Reformation, its historical preconditions, especially in the (Late) Middle Ages, and its effects on the early modern period, as evidenced by a track record of successful external grant acquisition and outstanding publications. The professorship includes 8 LVS of teaching in the area of focus of the professorship, but also the entire field of church history as well as the responsibility for examinations in all degree programs. The professorship will develop own research projects on the history of the Reformation, will participate in the research activities of the faculty as well as in the university’s research priorities, and will further collaborate with related fields in other faculties. The postholder is expected to contribute in the activities of the Faculty of Theology in the area of transfer/third mission. The scope of duties also includes participation in academic self-administration.
Requirements
A postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) in church history with a focus on the Late Middle Ages and/or the Reformation or an equivalent academic qualification, as well as research on the Reformation against the background of previous church history and/or its historical impact are prerequisites for application. Proven third-party-funded and interdisciplinary research projects in the aforementioned historical areas are further required.
