Teach Turkish in an international academic setting
As a Lecturer in Turkish at the department of Modern Foreign Languages and Cultures of the University of Amsterdam, you will contribute to high-quality language education within a dynamic and internationally oriented teaching environment. You will be responsible for delivering different language and culture courses to students from diverse academic backgrounds.
In this role, you will teach four courses that focus on developing students’ practical language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) as well as their understanding of Turkish society and culture. These courses attract motivated students who choose to broaden their academic profile with language learning, and you will play an important role in guiding and supporting them throughout this process. You will work closely with fellow lecturers and the course coordinator in an open and supportive environment where ideas for teaching innovation are encouraged. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum, ensuring that the courses remain engaging, relevant, and aligned with current educational standards.

This is what you will be doing
A typical workday may include preparing and teaching interactive classes, providing feedback on assignments, and advising students on their progress.
- Preparing and delivering classes
- Assessing student work (assignments, exams)
- Guiding and advising students
- Updating and improving course content based on student needs and feedback from the course coordinator
- Participating in course coordination and team meetings
- Contributing to the promotion of the Turkish courses or programmes (e.g., open days)
- Supporting minor or programme coordination tasks
- Contributing to academic or public events related to Turkish language
- Maintaining links with relevant academic or cultural network
This is what we ask of you
You have previous experience in teaching Turkish in a higher education setting in the Netherlands, and
- an academic degree in a relevant discipline;
- you are pedagogically/didactically competent
- you have attained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If you have not attained the UTQ you are required to start with the UTQ track upon commencement of your employment contract and obtain the certificate within three years of employment
- you are able to communicate in English
- you have a good command of Dutch and English. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer you the opportunity to take part in the State Examination in Dutch as a Second Language II programme.

We offer a temporary position for 14 hours a week, for a period of two years with a probationary period of two months. The preferred starting date is August 1, 2026.
Your salary, depending on relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between €3.546 to €5.538 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. In addition, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable;

- attaining the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ);
- the opportunity to participate in the Dutch as a Second Language programme II;
