Are you an internationally minded student looking for a student assistant position for 1 or 2 days per week within a dynamic academic network?
In this role, you will work with international partners of the Aurora Alliance in project groups, help coordinate the Aurora Student Ambassadors, and collaborate closely with the University Student Council within Aurora. You will also support international exchange and cooperation across the network.
Job description
The Aurora Student Assistant will be employed by VU Amsterdam and will develop and carry out activities for the thematic working group Student Engagement within the Aurora Alliance and coordinate the Aurora Student Ambassadors group. The VU Aurora student Assistant will work in close cooperation with the VU Institutional coordinator and the VU Aurora team (mobility and communication). He/she will work under supervision of the VU Institutional coordinator.
Tasks
The Aurora Student Assistant will:
- Represent VU Amsterdam within the Aurora working group for students;
- Actively carry out planning, execution and follow up of activities as discussed within the group in cooperation with other group members;
- Coordinate the Aurora student ambassadors group within VU Amsterdam and work on strengthening the student representation;
- Work closely with the portfolio holders of the VU Student Council; the official representation within the Aurora student council;
- Report 6-weekly on the development within the working group to the VU Aurora institutional coordinator;
- Support the communications officer around student initiatives within the network;
- Support the mobility officer around student exchanges within Aurora;
- Participate once a year in the Aurora summit abroad;
- Actively involve other VU sections involved in Aurora student activities.
Your profile
The prospective Aurora Student Ambassador:
- is a VU-student
- is proficient in English and preferably Dutch
- has feeling for education (policy) as well as VU Amsterdam
- is hands on and results oriented
- has good organisational & time management skills, also under stress
- has good interpersonal communication skills
- can work independently
- preferably has a student (ambassador) experience within the Aurora Alliance
What do we offer?
The appointment is initially for a minimum of 1 year with a probation period of 2 months. The ideal candidate is available for the next 2 years, until the end of the current program on 01-11-2027. The salary is in accordance with university guidelines for a student assistant, with a minimum of € 3,084 gross per month for a full-time appointment.
Your duties can be carried out, in consultation with your coordinator, both on-site and online.
The workload can vary between 4 hours per week and a maximum of 16 hours per week.

Institutional Affairs (BZ)
The Institutional Affairs department (Bestuurszaken – BZ) carries out a broad range of institution-wide tasks and provides strategic advice and integrated support to the Executive Board, the faculties, the service departments and the Supervisory Board. The department also works closely with the faculties and other service departments of VU Amsterdam to realize the administrative agenda and help shape the institutional strategy.
Policy and Institutional Support (BBO)
The Policy and Institutional Support department (Beleid en Bestuurlijke Ondersteuning – BBO) is responsible for providing strategic and policy advice to the Executive Board, faculties and service departments, and for supporting executive decision-making processes. BBO employs policy advisors, programme managers and executive secretaries. All work at dossier level within the domains of research, valorisation, institutional strategy, external relations (“public affairs”), strategic collaborations, operations, scientific integrity and knowledge security. Approximately 23 professionals work within BBO, each from their own specific expertise, operating independently for the Executive Board, the faculties and the service departments.
