About your role
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to cutting-edge research in neuroimmunology and obesity. Your work will include:
- working with obese mouse models using diet-induced and genetic strategies;
- performing metabolic phenotyping and behavioral assessments;
- conducting multi-omics analyses of microglia and neurons at single-cell resolution, including isolated microglia or spatial transcriptomics;
- applying advanced imaging techniques to study microglia-neuron interactions;
- participating in collaborative translational studies on human brain tissue with other PhD students and postdocs.
This position provides hands-on experience in translational neuroscience, obesity research, and neuroimmunology within a collaborative and dynamic environment.
About youWe are seeking a candidate who is curious, proactive, and highly motivated to advance obesity research. You bring:
- a Master’s degree in neuroscience or a related field;
- experience with mouse models;
- experience in neuroscience morphology (brain tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, bright-field or fluorescent microscopy) is a plus;
- experience in bioinformatics or multi-omics data analysis is advantageous;
- creativity, curiosity, and a problem-solving mindset;
- ability to work independently and as a strong team player;
- excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.

- A contract for 12 months, with the intention to extend for a total of 4 years. The Guideline PhD contract applies to this vacancy.
- Classification in salary scale OIO: € 3.108 to € 3.939 gross for full-time employment (depending on experience). In addition to a good basic salary, we offer 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Calculate your net salary here. As of 1 July 2026, the salary will be increased by 3.5% in accordance with the collective labor agreement (CAO UMC).
- Holiday hours: 190.4 per year for full time and a possibility to save additional hours.
- Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension.
- For >7 km each way, 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.
- Do you prefer walking or cycling? Take advantage of our good bike scheme. Moreover, you will receive a reimbursement of €0.18 per km.
