The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking for an Animal Welfare Officer / Breeding Manager (40-80%).

As Animal Welfare Officer / Breeding manager you will be jointly responsible for IOB's breeding management and compliance efforts regarding animal care.

Your position

Animal Welfare Officer
• Central processing of animal experiment applications
• Supporting and advising researchers on the planning, execution of animal experiments and application processes
• Tracking continuing education
• Monitoring compliance with legal requirements in laboratory animal husbandry and research
• Interfacing with the Cantonal Veterinary Office of Basel-Stadt and the Cantonal Animal Experimentation Commission
• Fulfilling reporting obligations to the authorities

Breeding Manager
• Advising researchers and supervise gm mouse line breeding
• Monitoring gm mouse lines colonies in contract breeding facility together with in vivo managers
• Deputizing regarding managing and approving mouse line purchases
• Controlling cage numbers in line with budget, internal resources and experimental needs
• Overseeing research projects and foreseeing research needs

Your profile

• Veterinarian or person holding a degree in biological sciences or equivalent
• Several years of research experience in the animal experimental field
• Complete training for persons involved in animal experiments (LTK Modul 1 or FELASA category B course)
• Complete training for persons directing animal experiments (LTK Modul 2 or FELASA category C course) is a plus
• Knowledge of Swiss animal welfare legislation related to experimental animals
• Proven track record as Animal Welfare Officer is a strong plus
• Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal skills required
• Excellent communication skills in English, German is a plus
