Archive Researcher - EXTEND

THE ROLE

Sitting within the Digital Division, this role will work closely with the Archive Producer, Archive Assistant Producers and the programming teams to understand their strategy on their digital social channels and research related archive programming. 

The Archive Researcher will access internal systems to ascertain rights positions, volume and potential for clipping and publishing on to social channels run by the Digital Division. This role will also work closely with the Editorial team to understand suitability.


Responsibilities

  • Using internal systems to review rights positions of archive programming and assess editorial suitability.

  • Record all work completed using internal database system to build record on content assessed.

  • Work with teams outside of Digital Division, such as Rights teams, Editorial teams, and archive content suppliers.

  • Work closely with Archive Producer and Archive Assistant Producers to assist with archive projects.

  • Support the programming teams with archive research and rights checks. 

  • Research accurately in keeping with editorial brief, using a wide range of sources and reference material in-keeping with audience needs and expectations & adhering to known BBC policies & guidelines.

  • Suggest, develop, and research appropriate ideas and present these to the Archive Assistant Producers.

  • Sourcing archive material for publishing.
  • WHAT DOES IT TAKE

    Key Criteria

  • An awareness of BBC editorial guidelines and other compliance policies or has the desire to glean this knowledge quickly.

  • Passion for archive and the media industry.

  • Experience or demonstrable interest in footage research.

  • Experience using archive systems and/or databases preferable.

  • A demonstrable aptitude for detail and accuracy in all areas.

  • Desirable  

  • Understanding of the importance of the BBC's values in accuracy and impartiality.

  • Experience reading post-production paperwork e.g., PasC and MRF and identifying copyright.

  • Ability to work with large amounts of data and condense into actionable next steps.

  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a wide variety of internal and external colleagues.

  • Demonstrable time management and organisational skills and the initiative to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • The ability to generate and develop achievable creative ideas for content & programming output and to pitch ideas with the necessary supporting documentation.

    Salary: £24,500 - £27000 + London Weighting (£5,319) , depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

    Contract type: Permanent 

    Location: This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working. Office Base is London, Television Centre.
