Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering - Tenure Track

Widener University's School of Engineering is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join the Mechanical Engineering Department as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will contribute to our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service while actively participating in the collaborative and engaging environment of Widener University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

Essential duties:

  • Teaching: Deliver high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses, with a focus on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and fundamental engineering courses. Foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Research: Conduct and publish impactful scholarly research in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Actively seek external funding to support research initiatives. Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to contribute to the academic and research community.
  • Service: Engage in departmental, school, and university service activities. Contribute to the development and improvement of the Mechanical Engineering Department and the School of Engineering. Participate in committee work, student advising, and other service responsibilities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other faculty members within the Mechanical Engineering Department to enhance the department's presence within the School of Engineering and Widener University. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for students and colleagues.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in Mechanical Engineering through continuous professional development. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enrich teaching and research activities.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

    Required:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching Experience: Prior teaching experience in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and fundamental engineering courses is preferred. Experience with graduate-level instruction is desirable.
  • Research Record: Demonstrated ability to conduct impactful research, with a record of scholarly publications in reputable journals and conferences. Research interests that include manufacturing and AI are preferred.
  • Funding Experience: Proven ability or potential to secure external funding to support research initiatives.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment.
