JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Aerospace Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks applicants for a faculty position at the Assistant Teaching Professor level (secure contract, non-tenure track). Priority will be given to applicants with an educational and research background in aerospace engineering. Responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in aerospace engineering, advising undergraduate projects in aerospace engineering, providing academic advising, and contributing to service activities in the department, university, and the profession.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Candidates for the teaching faculty position are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in aerospace engineering, to participate in WPI’s signature project-based education by advising undergraduate senior aerospace design projects, to lead project teams participation in student design competitions, and to provide academic advising to aerospace engineering majors. Teaching faculty are expected to contribute to continuous curriculum improvement of the aerospace engineering department (e.g. redesign of existing courses, introduce new courses, assist in ABET preparation), and contribute to service activities in the department (e.g. participate in committees, coordinate teaching and project laboratories, advise aerospace-related student clubs), the university, and the profession. They are also encouraged to pursue scholarship on engineering education.

Candidates for the teaching faculty position must hold an earned Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field prior to appointment at WPI. Priority will be given to candidates who can teach a broad range of our undergraduate curriculum and to those who have a record of teaching and/or project advising experience.
