Associate professor in Economics (up to two positions)

Publicerad 2024-03-27

About the position

The School of Economics and Business at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences is hiring two associate professors in economics.

Our School has active and renowned researchers in economics who regularly publish in leading academic journals. A major focus is on climate, resources, energy and the environment, while additional research topics include food and commodity markets, behavioral economics, and taxation and inequality. We are looking to strengthen our research teams with candidates that have experience in these research fields. You will also get the opportunity to advise PhD candidates.

It is important that our research has practical relevance for decisionmakers in the private and public sectors. We focus on applied research, and we prefer candidates with a strong experience with quantitative research methods.

You will be part of a faculty that actively works to secure outside funding and continues to position the School of Economics and Business as a leading contributor of economics research.

In addition to teaching courses in our current programs, you will be involved in developing future courses and study programs. We are seeing an increase in the demand for continuing education, especially digital courses. The Norwegian University of Life Sciences consistently rank at the top for student satisfaction and we are seeking candidates with a desire to develop new teaching methods, active learning, digital courses and lifelong learning.

We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in research and educational development. Emphasis will be put on publications from the last five years. Candidates in the later stages of their doctorate studies are able to apply. However, it is required that such candidates have successfully defended their thesis, and been approved, in advance of their appointment. Candidates who qualify for promotion to professor can do so after employment according to university guidelines.

Main tasks

The main tasks are teaching and research.

You will spend a significant amount of your time doing research within relevant fields, often in cooperation with your new colleagues. We expect you to publish regularly in peer-reviewed academic journals, apply for project funds from external sources, and contribute to positioning the School of Economics and Business as a leading research institution within our core fields.

You will be expected to teach different topics within our study programs, both general economics courses (such as micro, macro and econometrics) and more specialized courses. Additionally, you will partake in developing new courses and study programs, including digital courses for our continued education portfolio.

Other tasks include participating in collaborative projects with private sector partners. Faculty members also are assigned some administrative tasks, and you are expected to contribute to these in collaboration with colleagues and students.

Advising PhD-candidates and master students is part of the job.
