About the role

This exciting senior role offers the opportunity for an outstanding academic to join the University of Leicester and the thriving team of lifestyle researchers within the Diabetes Research Centre and the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The Leicester BRC is a > £26M investment by NIHR across the current 5-year cycle until April 2028, including research themes in lifestyle, cardiovascular, respiratory and infection, cancer, the environment, and data innovation for ethnic health and multiple long-term conditions.

Sitting within the BRC Lifestyle Theme and Leicester Lifestyle and Health Research Group, the post will support our world leading translational research in Sports Sciences and Clinical Medicine, areas where the University of Leicester is ranked second overall in the country by the Research Excellent Framework 2021 (out of 31 and 61 institutions respectively; ). Recognising these results, the Leicester Lifestyle and Health Research Group has recently been awarded > £14M funding over 5 years from Research England through its Expanding Excellence in England (E3) funding stream, to support and expand its research infrastructure from August 2024. This was the largest investment made within the recent round of this funding scheme.

In this key role, the post holder will have the opportunity to work within or across relevant specialities, including epidemiology, measurement, physiology and behavioural sciences. They will be responsible for planning and disseminating novel research outputs harnessing the wealth of regional, national and international data available to the Diabetes Research Centre and Leicester Biomedical Research Centre, along with planning and seeking funding for original research. In addition, there will be the opportunity to supervise others, including PhD students, in producing innovative research with a major influence on the discipline of Lifestyle Medicine.

About you

To be successful in the role of Associate Professor you will hold a PhD in a relevant subject area and have a track record of outputs that are internationally recognised and world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. You will be able to demonstrate experience and achievement within physical activity or nutrition research, reflected by a high reputation in the UK and internationally as well as having experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level. You will also be able to evidence your future plans for research applications.
