Job Specification: Aviation Engineering Lecturer Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne Salary: Up to £39,310 (depending on experience) plus benefits including Teachers Pension Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: Monday – Friday Main Purpose of Role: The primary responsibility of the Aviation Engineering Lecturer is to deliver high-quality aerospace engineering lessons for both Level 3 BTEC Diplomas and BSc Honours Degree courses at the Newcastle Aviation Academy. The role involves teaching primarily aircraft mechanical aspects, with experience in this area being desirable. The successful candidate must possess a strong aviation engineering background, with extensive knowledge and experience in either civilian or military aerospace industries and their regulations. This expertise will ensure an exceptional learning experience for all students. The lecturer will also assume responsibility for programme leadership, encompassing teaching, assessment setting, marking, and supporting learners in reaching their academic and career goals. Additional tasks include maintaining quality paperwork, fulfilling tutorial commitments, and other duties as directed by management. Key Responsibilities: Teaching & Curriculum Delivery: Provide formal lessons for aerospace engineering courses at further education and honours degree levels. Develop and implement innovative teaching and assessment strategies that enhance student outcomes. Support and guide learners in identifying and achieving their academic and career objectives. Learner & Curriculum Support: Write clear and actionable student reports to drive improvement. Maintain and update the MIS system, including attendance registers. Liaise with industry partners to create opportunities for students to gain practical experience. Quality Assurance & Improvement: Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and research aligned with industry needs and curriculum growth. Comply fully with the quality assurance processes of the college. Contribute positively to the organisational values and objectives. Programme Leader Responsibilities: As Programme Leader, the post-holder will: Lead and coordinate a designated aerospace engineering course(s) or groups of students. Identify students’ learning needs, plan and deliver high-quality learning programmes. Monitor student progress and quality performance, making timely interventions where necessary. Establish strong relationships with employers, students parents, and other stakeholders to promote student progress. Lead a teaching team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality student experience. Manage recruitment, attendance, retention, achievement, and progression of students. Support recruitment and marketing efforts for the programme. Continuously evaluate and improve personal teaching practices and those of the programme team. Standard Responsibilities (For all NCG Positions): Participate in staff reviews and performance management, including identifying training needs. Take responsibility for personal and others health and safety. Actively promote equal opportunities in all activities. Comply with all NCG policies and procedures. Support the safeguarding of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Requirements: Essential Qualifications & Skills: Degree in a related subject or qualified to industry-recognised standards. Post-16 Teaching Qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education and Training (DET), Cert Ed., PGCE) or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe. Evidence of continuous professional development. English and maths at Level 2 (GCSE / O Level, Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent, or willingness to achieve within a given timeframe. Experience with learning technologies, ILPs, and tracking systems for learner progress. Proven professional/vocational experience in aerospace engineering. Desirable Qualifications & Skills: Experience in programme leadership in further education (FE), higher education (HE), or apprenticeships.
