The Role 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a dynamic, international, multidisciplinary team working in the area of translational research for genetic skin research, neuromuscular diseases and other rare disorders. You will be based within Dermatological Sciences and within the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Centre at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute.

 

You will be instrumental in the development and operation of the Rare Disease Recruitment Portal (RDRP), helping to establish a national Rare Disease Trial Accelerator Platform (RD-TAP) for a number of rare diseases in the UK facilitating fair recruitment to clinical trials in the UK.  You will also support the development of rare skin registration with partner organisations such as the National Disease Registration Service. As part of this role you will also attend paediatric and adult outpatient clinics for patients with rare skin diseases and will be involved in multi-disciplinary clinics and discussions within the dermatology team.

 

You should have a Medical degree, GMC registration and license to practice in the UK or able to obtain within 6 months.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the main clinical point of contact, providing insight to the scoping and development of the Rare Disease Recruitment Portal. 
  • Provide a coordinated and efficient service to various stakeholders, manage the RDRP Task Force to ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Support the development of rare skin registration with partner organisations such as the National Disease Registration Service and facilitate integration into RD-TAP. 
  • Participate in paediatric and adult outpatient clinics for patients with rare skin diseases and will be involved in multi-disciplinary clinics and discussions within the dermatology team. 
  • Continuously review the literature and technology relevant to rare disease registry work, ensuring a good understanding of other on-going work in the field. 
  • Be involved in relevant rare disease clinical research grants, allowing for insight into networking activities and national and international collaborations
  • Publish and present high level scientific information including writing and presenting reports relevant to the work being carried out as part of translational research.
  • Support the submission research proposals to funders, including industry, where appropriate to facilitate the sustainability of the Platform.
  • Regular liaison with the principal investigators and senior members of the research teams to discuss the ongoing research and next possible steps.
  • Support the clinical initiatives of the dermatology and RD-TAP Team, including internal and audits and meetings.
  • Support the development and operation of RD-TAP, as required.


The Person

  • Understanding of patient registries and databases within the NHS environment 
  • Understanding of clinical trial methodology and GCP Principles
  • The ability to work flexibly according to project needs 
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues 
  • Good level of analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both orally and through the written word. 
  • The ability to use personal initiative and creativity to solve research problems 
  • Ability to extract and interpret complex medical information from medical records 
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively 
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills and ability to prioritise competing demands 
  • Excellent information technology and computing skills

Qualifications

  • MB BS (Medical Doctor, MD) or equivalent from recognised medical school
  • GMC Registration with licence to practice or willing to obtain (registration will be required within 6 months of post start date)
  • Good Clinical Practice Training (Desirable)
