Job Advertisement: Digital and IT Skills Lecturer

Purpose of Job:

  • Teach and assess learning on a range of Digital and IT courses for 14-19 and adult learners, from entry level to level 3, including college-based qualifications and workforce development.
  • Work effectively as a team member, liaising with the Senior Curriculum Manager and all colleagues in the College.
  • Take an active role in your professional development in all aspects of the role.

Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (Including hour lunch break)

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

In common with all other staff:

  1. Support the College’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

  3. Take responsibility for your professional development and participate in relevant internal and external activities.
  4. Implement the College’s safeguarding policies and practices.
  5. Fulfill your health and safety responsibilities in line with the College’s Health and Safety policy.
  6. Ensure data is handled in line with the General Data Protection Regulations.

In common with all other lecturing staff:

  1. Teach on a range of Digital and IT courses at community or main College sites.
  2. Serve as a personal tutor/course coordinator for a designated group of students.
  3. Participate in the selection, interviewing, admissions, enrolment, induction, and tracking of students.
  4. Develop the curriculum in line with national requirements, local community needs, and employment needs.
  5. Develop student-centred teaching and learning strategies to increase retention, achievement, and progression.
  6. Prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work, and learning outcomes.
  7. Act as a leader/member of appropriate teams and liaise with colleagues in the design, delivery, and evaluation of all aspects of the course.
  8. Provide regular feedback to students and give group and individual tutorial support to help them achieve maximum benefit from their course or programme.
  9. Observe procedures for student monitoring, discipline, and complaints in accordance with the College Charter.
  10. Liaise with employers and other agencies regarding student placement supervision, course and assignment design, career, and higher education opportunities.
  11. Attend external courses and conferences relevant to the Programme.
  12. Compile and maintain course records.
  13. Contribute to the College’s annual assessment and review process, including comprehensive review and evaluation of your area of work.
  14. Follow all processes related to qualifications and examinations, including registration and submissions to validating bodies, and liaise with the College Exams Officer, moderators, and external verifiers in accordance with College policy.
  15. Follow the College’s Internal Quality procedures and actively participate in internal moderation of assessment and assessment decisions.

Person Specification:

  • Teaching experience within a learning environment.
  • Experience of ILT learning.
  • Experience of being a Personal Tutor.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Education, Certificate of Education, DTTLS, PGCE).
  • GCSE A* - C Grade or Level 2 equivalent in Maths and English.
  • D32/D33/D34, A1 Awards (or willingness to work towards as appropriate).
  • Ability to embed Basic and Key skills in vocational areas.
  • High level of computer literacy, including the use of Word, Excel, Databases, Outlook.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to use initiative, organise, and prioritise.
  • Ability to identify improvements within existing systems.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to produce and present reports appropriate to a variety of audiences (including PowerPoint presentations).
  • Ability to establish good working relations with colleagues and students.
  • Commitment to providing a quality service and implementing quality improvements.
  • Commitment to creating a student-centred culture.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Must hold a current valid driving licence and have access to a car or be prepared to travel by public transport.
  • Ability to work flexibly throughout the week/year by prior agreement.
