  • Purpose of Role

    To lead the delivery of the College curriculum within your class and/or curriculum area and contribute to the development of support staff, students and strategies.

    To plan effectively for lessons and where appropriate, work collaboratively with other lecturers in the whole planning cycle and the management/ preparation of resources.

    To support all students in order to raise standards by utilising advanced levels of knowledge and skills when planning, monitoring, assessing and managing classes.

    To work alongside staff from the Residential and Clinical teams where appropriate to support the inclusion of all students, encouraging them to become independent learners and to provide support for their welfare.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To create and maintain an appropriate, safe and stimulating learning environment which promotes learning and the desire to learn in teaching areas and shared areas of responsibility.
  • To promote the correct environment, variety of teaching styles and learning situations that enhance and facilitate a learning environment which students are happy and motivated within, including the management of associated resources.
  • To have a good knowledge of the College policies and curriculum offers and use these to provide a broad and balanced creative curriculum which is relevant to the needs and interests of the students and differentiated to their individual preferences and skills.
  • To undertake professional development to enhance own teaching skills and areas of responsibility to the benefit and development of the whole college.
  • To liaise with other lecturers in planning, delivery, evaluation and assessment, observing and reporting to develop and track long term planning for a creative and meaningful curriculum.
  • To assess student work in line with College policy, recording formative and summative assessments, tracking and reporting on student progress, ensuring students are on track to achieve in line with targets and qualifications.
  • To attend and chair Annual Reviews of the EHCP/ LSP/ Statement of SEN and attend all other meetings in relation to students in their class, including MDT and parents evenings. To contribute to reports for other students where appropriate. To take on any actions identified in these meetings to promote the learning and progress of students.
  • To submit planning including Schemes of Work, medium and weekly planning in line with College policy and maintain notes in journals of assessment of sessions to aid future planning.
  • To attend and contribute to parent evenings
  • To promote the general ethos of the College
  • To promote and maintain good home/ school liaison, maintaining regular contact with families of students
  • To encourage the development of a moral and spiritual dimension
  • To maintain awareness of current Health and Safety guidance and be responsible for the risk assessments of your own teaching areas within the College’s policy.to safeguard Health and Safety of students when they are engaged in activities both on and offsite.
  • To promote the safeguarding of students at all times.
  • To maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of developments in meeting the needs of students with autism and ALN.
  • Any other duties related to the nature of this post, necessary to promote effective learning.
  • Role Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher (QTS) or FE teaching Qualification
  • Knowledge of developments for young people with ASC
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience of liaising with parents and external agencies and facilitating their active involvement with the student
  • Experience in assessing the needs of young people with SEN / ASC
  • Experience working within a school/ college
  • Be able to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Ability of be innovative, imaginative and flexible with the working situation
  • Ability to manage, support and motivate staff in a team situation
  • Ability to provide a warm, welcoming and structured learning environment
