Publicerad 2024-09-18

About the role

This post represents an exciting opportunity to advance a globally unique genetic data resource comprising multiple longitudinal birth cohort studies; to lead CLS’ genetics data management/sharing, and contribute to new interdisciplinary and biomedical research.

The CLS cohorts, alongside others in UCL, are at the forefront of health and social science. A major expansion has taken place with the availability of new genomics data in MCS (, ‘trios’ of natural parents and children, exome data), genotype data in Next Steps and genotype and methylation data in NCDS, and BCS70.

In this exciting role you will be responsible for the management, storage, imputation, quality control (QC) and sharing of the large-scale CLS cohorts’ genomics data. You will act as the main point of contact for all genetics data related queries concerning data quality, availability and delivery.

You will also contribute to research by providing quantitative analytical input in collaboration with CLS and external researchers, for example, in the derivation and use of polygenic risk scores, genome wide association studies and epigenetics analyses.

The secondment is open to current UCL employees only and is available until 31st August in the first instance. Future funding is currently being requested.

About you

You will have a MSc in data intensive field such as Data Science, Genetics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Computer science or related field; or equivalent expertise/experience.

A PhD in data intensive field (see above); or equivalent expertise/experience is desirable.

You will be familiar with standard computational tools of statistical genetics and have advanced programming experience with scripting languages ( Python, R, Bash, PLINK, SAMTOOLS) with the ability to debugging and improving scripts.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
