Junior News Picture Researcher<br/><br/>The Times and The Sunday Times photographic department is made up of professional, energetic and highly creative journalists who work across all sections and publishing platforms to visually enhance our journalism.<br/><br/>Times Media is looking for a proactive junior picture researcher who is passionate about impactful photojournalism, creative digital storytelling and thrives working in a busy environment. Working in our London Bridge office and reporting to the duty picture editors, this role is an ideal opportunity for a researcher who has experience of a junior role in a photo library or newsroom and wants to come and work with the team that publishes award winning photojournalism.<br/><br/>Please apply by December 1 with your CV and a covering letter that includes website or social links for what you consider to be the five most important news photographs of 2024.<br/><br/>Responsibilities include:<br/><br/>Working with editors across different editorial departments to ensure our journalism is illustrated with the most relevant and engaging photography<br/><br/>Responding to listed news stories and direct picture research requests from internal partners in a timely manner<br/><br/>Watching competitor news sites and social media channels to identify the best picture stories to follow<br/><br/>Monitoring incoming picture feed for the strongest material to pitch to picture editors<br/><br/>Captioning photographs obtained from external providers<br/><br/>Building positive working relationships with internal partners<br/><br/>Skills required:<br/><br/>A passion for learning and improvement through daily challenges, supported by team members and senior editorial staff<br/><br/>An understanding of what constitutes the best photography to illustrate relevant news stories<br/><br/>Demonstrable organisational skills, a forensic eye for detail and a high level of literacy<br/><br/>Creative thinking and an ability to produce dependable results to tight deadlines without continuous supervision<br/><br/>Evidence of conceiving original ideas and seeing them through to fruition<br/><br/>Willingness to work in an office-based role across a seven day rota pattern<br/><br/>Experience of picture research using social media platforms and corporate / government image repositories in addition to traditional photo libraries would be an advantage<br/><br/>We offer a flexible working arrangement where employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of three days per week.
