Publicerad 2024-12-04

About the role

:

We seek a Lecturer in Digital and Manual Pattern Cutting to contribute to teaching and student experience across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

You will have substantial experience collaborating with directional design practitioners, creating original fashion outcomes through a holistic, creative skillset that emphasises innovative pattern cutting and construction. You will have extensive knowledge and experience in digital fashion design practices, including expertise in using industry-standard pattern cutting and 3D prototyping software such as Browzwear V Stitcher, CLO3D, Optitex, Gerber, or Lectra.

Drawing on your experience, you will deliver creative workshops that build knowledge and confidence in both digital and manual pattern cutting/prototyping. You will predominantly teach across UG/PG Fashion Design programmes at the Manchester Fashion Institute and contribute towards student progression and satisfaction, and positive graduate outcomes. We encourage and promote practice concerned with the ‘thinking', ‘doing' and ‘making' of fashion that engages with the real world and current theoretical, social, digital or cultural contexts.

The post holder will also be expected to demonstrate an interest in developing expertise and innovation in the delivery of teaching and/or student experience.

About you:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of teaching fashion design, digital and manual pattern cutting and construction in Higher Education
  • A good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications/industry experience.
  • You will have substantial knowledge and experience in digital fashion design practices, including expertise in using industry-standard pattern cutting and 3D prototyping software such as Browzwear V Stitcher, CLO3D, Optitex, Gerber, or Lectra.
  • Desirable:

  • A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies, demonstrating professional standing.
  • Successful dissemination of practice-based initiatives and innovations, including scholarly outputs (e.g. journal and conference papers, expert presentations, textbooks, monographs, exhibitions or performances).
  • In some circumstances, we will consider applicants who do not have these qualifications but are committed to obtaining them and have equivalent significant attainment in their professional field.
