Publicerad 2024-10-22

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking department as a Lecturer in Control Engineering. You will be part of a team that champions problem-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, with access to cutting-edge facilities, including new electronics, renewable energy, and robotics laboratories.

In this role, you'll deliver and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in control engineering, while actively engaging in applied research to enhance the University’s reputation for research-informed teaching. You'll also be supported in pursuing research opportunities that generate income, such as grants and industry partnerships, helping to drive innovation and growth.

Additionally, you'll support students through placements, provide pastoral care, and take on academic leadership and administrative responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity to develop your research potential and professional practice while shaping the future of control engineering education.

The Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with a passion for teaching and a strong background in Control Engineering. You should hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, along with a PhD (or have submitted your thesis and are awaiting examination) in a relevant subject area. Equivalent relevant experience in the field may also be considered. A recognised teaching qualification would be advantageous. If you haven’t yet achieved UKPSF recognition, you will be supported to do so through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching or Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework during your probationary period.

The ideal candidate will bring practical, hands-on experience in control engineering and the ability to teach using simulation software and hardware tools. Experience with software packages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, CoppeliaSim, and ROS is highly desirable.

On a personal level, we are seeking someone who:

- Is passionate about delivering high-quality teaching through innovative, active learning strategies.

- Demonstrates strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and takes real interest in the development of students.

- Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to contribute to other areas within the department as needed.

The Faculty

The Faculty of Engineering, Computing & the Environment (ECE) is among the most diverse in the UK, offering a wide range of subjects that encourage cross-discipline innovation. Our academics are experts, deeply engaged in research, which they bring into their teaching. Our state-of-the-art facilities include specialised labs, a public outreach centre, a virtual reality centre, a rocket lab, flight and race simulators, a renewable energy lab, automotive and mechanical labs and new labs dedicated to electrical, electronic, and robotic engineering, along with an advanced design studio. This combination creates an ideal environment for practical learning for future engineers, and an exciting atmosphere for academic professionals.
