An opportunity has arisen to join GCU as a Lecturer in Fashion in the Department of Fashion, Marketing, Tourism and Events (FMTE). Situated within the Glasgow School for Business and Society, FMTE runs undergraduate and postgraduate fashion programmes in design, branding and marketing that offer students a transformative, industry-relevant experience including live projects, activities and external engagement.
We are seeking two creative, enthusiastic and experienced Lecturers to contribute to contemporary fashion teaching and curriculum development across fashion theory, design, pattern construction and garment production. Qualified to at least Master’s level in a fashion area and with relevant fashion industry experience, you must have the expertise to develop and deliver a range of fashion modules using industry standard equipment and be skilled in the use of digital technologies and software such as Adobe Creative. Proficiency in fashion illustration, creative branding and visual communications would also be desirable.
The successful applicants will work closely with a small team to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise dissertations, lead modules and programmes as appropriate, and engage in further development of the subject area to ensure the curriculum is relevant, challenging and current.
As well as lecturing experience, you should have a proven record of engagement with contemporary fashion practice and be aware of key developments in the sector. You should also have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and students.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit a portfolio of relevant work in advance and, on the day of interview, to give a presentation and undertake a practical assignment. The interviews will take place in January with the aim of appointment at the earliest opportunity for the successful candidates.
