Role Overview

Based within our Foundation Learning Department at Merton College, you will provide tutorial and pastoral care for learners with learning disabilities/difficulties and monitor work experience activities. You will act as a Course Leader and take responsibility for their study programme including Maths and English. You will actively participate in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation and contribute to curriculum planning and product development, to deliver the College’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role will be qualified and have experience of working with SEND and understanding their needs. You must be able to work successfully as part of a team. As an experienced teacher, you will manage students with challenging behaviour and demonstrate the ability to teach and communicate at a level appropriate to the students, recognizing their different learning abilities.

You will be aware of the changing agenda for SEND learners in further education and its implications for delivery and promotion of learning. Knowledge of the accreditation framework and assessment strategies in the post-16 sector, including RARPA, is essential, as well as understanding the application of information technology and assistive technology to teaching and learning strategies. Your experience should include working with external agencies and assessment and/or IV practices for a range of specialist accreditation.
