The candidate will be required to develop and contribute to transformational health and social care agendas that support new models of healthcare delivery through new ways of working. The post holder will be committed to promoting academic enquiry that develops critical thinking in students at all levels and which supports safe, effective, evidenced based decision making for medicine administration and prescribing practice. The post holder will also be responsible for supporting an interprofessional approach to medicines optimisation and management to ensure students and graduating staff in the workforce are able to support this key health agenda.

Main duties of the job

By providing expert knowledge, the post holder will teach and lead agreed modules, assess students/apprentices, supervise undergraduate research and engage in curriculum development. The Three Counties School of Nursing and Midwifery upholds the overall mission of the University by providing high quality, accessible and inclusive learning opportunities, promoting academic enquiry and the advancement of knowledge. Service user and carer involvement in course development and delivery is an increasingly important aspect of our work, as is inter-professional and interagency working.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To undertake teaching of nursing on Pharmacology and Medicines Management / Optimisation teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across a range of professional programmes and to a wide range of students and apprentices.

2. To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of student work, individually or collectively as part of a module team in accordance with quality assurance processes (including PSRB standards).

3. To design and develop innovative and engaging learning materials and assessments that inspire students to succeed in their goals.

4. To participate fully in curriculum development, including personal knowledge and expertise in high standards for pharmacology and medicines optimisation across all professional programmes.

5. To participate in tripartite arrangements with students / apprentices and practice colleagues to facilitate effective partnership working and student support.

6. To facilitate effective partnerships with local Trusts / Integrated Care Systems and Practice environments.

7. To actively engage in scholarship that underpins professional re-validation and in ways that contribute to the University and School objectives and contribute to ensuring up-to-date, leading-edge teaching.

8. Where appropriate, to undertake and disseminate research outputs in a form appropriate to their discipline, publication and conferences.

9. To act as a Personal Academic Tutor.

10. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the Institute and University.

11. To participate in annual staff development and review processes.

12. To participate fully in the life of the Department, School, and University, and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Department or her / his nominee.

13. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

14. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.

15. Carry out these duties in a manner that promotes equality of opportunity and supports diversity and inclusion and takes into account the University's commitment to environmentally sustainable ways of working.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Contemporary knowledge of recent policy, research and transformational health and social care agendas that influence the education of students in a multiprofessional workforce.
  • Ability to actively engage in scholarship that underpins professional re-validation.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a wide range of people, both orally and in writing.
  • Evidence of effective team-working and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, influence and motivate others through collaborative working practices.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Evidence of having contributed to peer review of research ( through journal reviewing, ethics reviews, grant review, REF output review).
  • Desirable

  • Contemporary knowledge of Independent and Supplementary prescribing including recent initiatives, policy and research.
  • Essential for Standard Academic Contract: Clear evidence of capacity to produce high quality publications at international level.
  • Specialist knowledge in a broad range of therapeutic topics.
  • Experience

    Desirable

  • Evidence of teaching Prescribing, Pharmacology, Medicines Optimisation and Independent and Supplementary Prescribing in a Higher Education environment; demonstrating excellence and innovation in teaching practice.
  • Essential for Standard Academic Contract: Evidence of providing support to others in relation to their own research, scholarship or knowledge exchange activities ( through mentoring, coaching, collaboration or line management roles).
  • Qualifications

    Desirable

  • Registered healthcare professional with the NMC or HCPC.
  • Masters degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Evidence of a prescribing or independent and supplementary prescribing qualification.
  • Senior / Principal Fellowship with Advance HE.
  • PhD or other doctoral qualification.
