The role will require excellent communication and creative problem-solving skills. In collaboration with the University of Worcester Work Placement Support Team, the post holder will ensure necessary information is provided to support practice placements for students and practice educators, including web-based information. You will also assist in assessing students assignments, conduct placement visits, and engage in scholarly activity as appropriate.

You will participate in admissions and recruitment events where we work collaboratively with our colleagues in IMPACT, the university service-user group, who support teaching, recruitment, and curriculum development. You should also expect to play an active role within the School, which may include involvement in the delivery of CPD activity across a range of programs. All staff are expected to engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance their own professional and academic development.

Main duties of the job

You will take on the role of Lecturer (Teaching) Practice Facilitator. The role will include module leadership and teaching on the BA, MA, and Apprenticeship practice modules. Additionally, it will involve coordinating the practice element and the ongoing development of placements for the BA and MA Social Work degree programs, as well as supporting the Social Work CPD courses offered within the Department. You will provide a range of support to students, placements, and the course team to ensure high-quality practice education learning experiences within the program. This position requires ongoing liaison with Social Work students, academic staff, Practice Educators, and placement providers at all levels in a wide range of local authority social work providers, including both adult and children's health services and social care agencies in the private, voluntary, and independent sectors. The post holder will be strategic in developing new placement opportunities to support a growing number of students in the program and provide education and training for practice educators. You will liaise with employers to secure placements, support students, and provide preparation, tutorials, and documentation for their practice learning experiences. Additionally, you will ensure that students and Practice Educators complete the paperwork to meet requirements and that it is stored securely.

The University of Worcester seeks to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Social Work England (SWE) registered Social Worker to join the Department of Social Work and Paramedic Science. You will join a friendly and supportive team of academics, all of whom are registered Social Workers. The team delivers across a suite of Social Work courses, including the BA (Hons) in Social Work, MA in Social Work, and the newly approved Social Work (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship course, as well as a range of CPD modules for post-qualified Social Workers.

Job responsibilities

1. To contribute to high quality teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level, to include designing and developing innovative learning materials and assessments, including module leadership in Social Work for practice-based modules and CPD modules to assess, mark and moderate module assessments.

2. To participate in curriculum development work including planning, development, and evaluation of courses.

3. To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of student work, individually or collectively as part of a module team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.

4. Support students and mentors in existing practice placements within the independent, voluntary, and general practice sectors, which may include international placements.

5. To liaise with statutory and voluntary social work settings to source and develop new placement opportunities for social work students.

6. To ensure that all placement opportunities meet the requirements of the Universitys workbased learning policy.

7. To work effectively with 'Impact', the Universitys service user and carer group.

8. To provide preparation, support, and training to support students and practice educators for preparation for practice and ensure quality learning in practice.

9. Proactively engage with key stakeholders including practice facilitators, academic staff, PLAST Team (Placement Support Team), the professional regulatory body and the independent, voluntary, and general practice sectors to provide an outstanding student experience.

10. Assess the quality of practice learning environments and propose interventions for improvement, including maintaining records, writing evaluation reports and monitoring quality.

11. Engage in tripartite arrangements with students and mentors as to facilitate effective partnership working and student support.

12. Participate fully in the life of the Institute and University, by engaging in representational and ambassadorial activities in support of the Institutes activities and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Institute or her / his nominee.

13. To carry out agreed academic administrative work related to placements.

14. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

15. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in social work and registration with Social Work England (SWE).
  • Desirable

  • A Masters qualification.
  • A Practice Education Professional Standards (PEPS) 1 and 2 qualification.
  • Experience

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for supporting students in practice education and of working across a range of practice areas.
  • Ability to provide training and tutorials to prepare students and practice educators for practice learning.
  • Demonstrate and understanding of current Social Work Policy and Practice.
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.

  • Effective IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Software including Excel, PowerPoint, email, diary management, document creation, including tables and secure storage, and web-based learning platforms (Blackboard).
