We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Policy and Research Manager with the Phoenix Insights team, our in house think tank team.

Job Type: Permanent

Location: This role is based in our London office, with time spent in the office and at home.

Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

The role

Phoenix Insights is a think tank within Phoenix Group, set up to transform the way society responds to the possibilities of longer lives. Our particular focus is on addressing the pension saving gap, helping people make better decisions to and through retirement, and helping more people be in jobs and careers that suit their needs across their lives. We use research to prompt fresh debate and inspire the action needed to make better longer lives a reality for all of us. This role will report to the Head of Research, Analysis and Policy.

You will scope and manage a portfolio of research projects at all stages of the policy cycle. This will involve engaging with, commissioning and managing external providers as well as carrying out in house analysis. You will then use evidence and to help create purposeful and innovative policy solutions aimed at government, industry and individuals.

We want to start to reframe how people think about their longer lives, and you will be key to finding the right policy makers and influencers to share our insights with. A key part of the role will be impactful and engaging use of written and other communications using evidence and insights to share key messages succinctly to internal and external audiences, including policy makers, academics, employers, practitioners and media. 

This is an exciting time to be joining Phoenix Insights , and you will be joining a closely knit team of eight colleagues, who are passionate about making a real change in this area. 

What are we looking for? 

  • Knowledge of one or more relevant areas of policy related to longer working lives, such as labour market economics, social security, employer policy and practice, careers advice, retirement transitions. Knowledge of our other policy areas such as long terms savings or pensions would be an advantage
  • We are looking for someone who has run and delivered their own impactful research projects, or commissioned others to across a range of methodologies. This could be in a social research, government, think tank, industry or academic setting. 
  • Ability to undertake in-house analysis using a range of data sources. These may include ONS, Labour Market Statistics, benefits and welfare, social attitudes, wealth and assets, or other major national surveys, as well as our own existing data. We are a mixed methods team, and some knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative approaches would be an advantage
  • Ability to develop and communicate research and policy solutions. This would include data visualisations, infographics, long and short form written material. Experience of working in a policy, public affairs or research function would be an advantage.
