Postdoc in fluid mechanics and heat management
Job description
The heating/cooling sector accounts for about half of the energy consumption in Europe and a large part of the heat is produced in plants that use fossil fuels. To decarbonize the heating sector, alternative ways to produce heat are needed where large heat pumps (HP) can play an important role. Large HP currently represents only 2-3 GWth in Europe, with the majority installed in Scandinavia. There is a need to switch to natural refrigerants, e.g. Isobutane, CO2. To make optimal HP systems with high performance and wide application, there is a need for a test platform to ensure research progress. The postdoctoral project focuses on the construction and commissioning of a compressor test rig for research and development on large centrifugal compressors for HP. Cooperation with industrial national partners in the energy sector is expected. Candidates must have a documented background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and experimental methods.
