Postdoctoral Researcher - Development of mathematical models to understand how lipids mediate cancer cell plasticity

Publicerad 2024-09-13

We are seeking

to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Development of mathematical models to understand how lipids mediate cancer cell plasticity. Working with Professor Helen Byrne at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of Oxford, you will develop mathematical models to determine how lipids affect cancer cell plasticity. You will write up your results for publication and participate fully in the activities of the research groups. You will be responsible for preparing working theories and analysing qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining your mathematical models as appropriate. You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines, and you will adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials. Other responsibilities will include developing ideas for generating research income, presenting detailed research proposals to senior researchers, and collaborating in the preparation of research publications, and book chapters. It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in mathematics, data science or a related discipline, alongside specialist mathematical knowledge to develop and analyse mathematical and/or computational models that can be used to investigate how adipocytes facilitate melanoma invasion. You will have enthusiasm for learning about cancer biology and mathematical modelling of cancer, and the ability to work independently and to pursue research as part of an interdisciplinary team.
