Postdoctoral Researcher
Main purpose of job:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join the department of Cell & Molecular Sciences, working in the group of Dr Yunqing Yu. This four-year project is fully funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. The research aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms and evolutionary basis of grain shattering (disarticulation) in the Triticeae, a grass tribe with significant economic importance. The work will integrate molecular and developmental biology, physiology, and phylogenetics to better understand this critical trait in crop domestication and improvement. For more background of the research, please refer to the following publications:

The postholder will benefit from an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic group of scientists associated with the International Barley Hub (IBH), a flagship of the James Hutton Institute. The IBH provides a platform for excellence in barley science and fosters collaboration across scientific, industrial and commercial sectors.
Main duties of post holder:
Analyse the morphology and physiology of disarticulation zones in Triticeae species.
Elucidate the molecular mechanisms regulating the development and evolution of disarticulation zones.
Disseminate research outcomes through publications and public communications.
Participate in related research projects within the group.
Contribute to the development of new ideas and grant proposals.
