Job summary

Are you a highly motivated individual who enjoys achallenge? Would you enjoy working in a busy and dynamic team responsible forthe education and training of junior doctors and medical students for CountyDurham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust? This is an excellent opportunity touse your proven administrative and organisational skills to enable theeducation and training of medical students and junior medical staff.

You will need to have excellent verbal andwritten communication skills in order to establish strong working relationshipswith colleagues, resident doctors, medical professionals and other NHS staff toprovide support and advice to all Doctors in Training, as well as producinghigh quality training programmes in conjunction with the clinical teaching team

Main duties of the job

To work with key stakeholders andsenior members of the medical education team to support and advise on thedelivery of Postgraduate Medical Education across all trust sites and theannual Medical Education governance calendar.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To use specialist knowledge across the medical educationcurricula, to support Higher Speciality Trainees and relevant teachingprogrammes which meet contractual and quality requirements and support thewellbeing and pastoral challenges of Doctors in Training.

To respond to the annual medical education governancecalendar, whilst running reports and data linked to doctorsatisfaction/feedback, as well as monitoring progress and action plans andassisting with monitoring RAG reports.

Cover the geographical area overseen by the MedicalEducation Department that is, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trustand to develop appropriate links working in partnership with NHS England, LeadEmployer Trust, Tees and Esk Wear Valley NHS Trust and local generalpractitioners.

Required to travel to all Trust sites..

Special Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent IT skills including good working knowledge of full Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including verbal, written and telephone and the ability to present a positive and professional image at all times.
  • To understand the need for diplomacy and tact and ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload; work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Adaptable, determined, self-motivated and enthusiastic with competence in dealing with situations involving other people.
  • Good organisational skills to meet demanding delivery schedules and provide support to trust staff.

  • Understanding of NHS organisation and services and relevant government related NHS Guidance, Strategies and Targets.
  • Use of electronic systems to support medical workforce.
  • Knowledge of the Resident Doctor Contract 2016, and the issues relating to Doctors in Training

  • Experience and understanding of the role of key stakeholders throughout the Region Health Education England, LET, Medical Schools.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in co-ordinating delivery of learning and development programmes within a public sector organisation, preferably NHS, particularly related to IT systems.

  • Experience of undertaking a change project within the NHS.

    Essential

  • Minimum 5 GCSE at grades A to C (English Language Essential) or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience.
  • Desirable

  • CIPD Qualified
  • NVQ Level 4 or Diploma or equivalent or equivalent knowledge gained through relevant work experience.
