Power Electronics Researcher
Job Description
What will you be doing?
As a Power Electronics Researcher you will join Derby team to support our activities within the Aerospace sector.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Develop and utilize zero-dimensional models to analyse the performance of internal combustion engines (piston and gas turbine engines) under both steady-state and transient conditions.
- Establish clear requirements for the converter topology and conduct simulations using PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or other relevant software.
- Create and manufacture PCBs for various components of E-motor controllers, including power modules, gate drives, and motor controllers.
- Establish test bench infrastructure, develop comprehensive test plans, and execute thorough testing procedures.
- Ensure that all research activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, including health, safety, and ethical guidelines.

- Proficiency in formal English report writing.

Qualifications
Experience, skills and qualifications required:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience designing E-motor controllers.
- Experience with high voltage and high-power converters/inverters.
- Experience in using Altium, KiCad, or any other PCB development software.
- Experience in aviation electrical power engineering.
- Working knowledge of EMI (CM an DM), transformers, and semiconductor switches and different PWM schemes.
