European Tech Recruit are working closely with a leading telecoms research company, based in London, who are looking for a Principal 6G Standards Research Engineer to join their team.


In this role you will join a 6G research team and contribute to the development of innovative solutions, algorithms and protocols addressing the challenges of future wireless systems with focus on solutions relevant to the standardization process targeting 3GPP RAN, SA or CT. This role combines cutting-edge research, technical leadership, and strategic collaboration with global standardization bodies to shape the future of telecommunications.


Responsibilities as Principal 6G Standards Research Engineer:

  • Plan, coordinate and execute on 6G standards-driven research with focus on technologies relevant to 3GPP RAN, SA and/or CT in collaboration with the Wireless Standards team.
  • Contribute to company’s 6G research and innovation efforts, including intellectual property creation and generation of standard inputs and industry publications in areas of expertise.
  • Contribute and/or support our participation in global standardization bodies and industry forums, influencing key decisions on 6G standards, such as, ETSI, ITU or 3GPP.
  • Monitor and analyze technological trends to align innovation efforts with future industry needs.
  • Spearhead interdisciplinary research initiatives, ensuring technical excellence across projects.
  • Lead efforts to establish and strengthen strategic alliances with industry, academia, and governmental bodies.
  • Coordinate the company’s contributions to multiple organizations, driving alignment with global technology standards.
  • Deliver keynote presentations, participate in high-profile panels, and lead webinars to represent the company’s vision.
  • Author white papers, blogs, and research publications to establish thought leadership in the 6G domain.
  • Oversee the integration of technical solutions across projects and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Tackle critical and complex challenges in 6G research, leveraging advanced technical knowledge and innovative thinking.
  • Drive continuous improvement in research methodologies, tools, and processes to maintain a competitive edge.


Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related technical fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, with significant experience in large-scale, cross-functional research projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in industry forums, with a proven ability to influence standards and technology direction related to 3GPP radio and systems.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert across multiple technical domains, particularly 3GPP-based telecommunications and wireless networks.
  • Proven track record of innovation, including published research papers or patents in telecommunications.
  • Exceptional communication skills with English language fluency and experience in representing the company in high-profile settings.
  • Experience with European and International R&I wireless ecosystems such as ETSI, ITU-R IMT systems, and HEU/H2020 is desirable.
  • Experience in project management is a clear advantage.
  • A high level of independence, autonomy or self-management is required.
  • Ability to communicate vision, solve problems, and execute on goals.
  • Highly flexibly and adaptable to changing structures and priorities.
  • Ability to set and manage expectations across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask, probe, analyze, and problem-solve issues with minimal guidance.
  • Respect for others, including listening to others and assuming the best intention of other.
  • Availability for international travel is required.
