Professor in Cultural Leadership

Publicerad 2024-09-23

Job description

The Faculty of Life, Sciences and Education is seeking to appoint a 0.4 Professor to work within the Hydra Research and Innovation Centre (HRIC).

USW has a strong reputation for producing highly impactful and applied research with 81% of our research activity classed as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (4/3*).

Our vibrant, impactful research is contributing to solving real problems faced by our society, and our multidisciplinary research teams collaborate with industry, communities, and organisations to make a positive difference to lives. Our research is focused around four accelerator areas: Crime, Security, and Justice; Health and Well-being; Creative Innovation; and Sustainable Environment.

USW has enjoyed a long relationship with the Hydra Foundation and its immersive learning methodology in critical incident decision making but we are now delighted to have extended that by hosting the only Hydra Research and Innovation Centre in the UK at our Newport campus.

Our work with Hydra has traditionally focused on using immersive methods to aid teaching and learning. Working in collaboration with the Hydra Foundation, the Hydra RIC creates an environment to provide evidence-based research to inform future decision-making policy, procedure and practice with a specific initial focus on cultural leadership within emergency services and other organisations.

The post-holder will be a research leader and able to provide academic leadership of the growing research portfolio with line management of academic staff engaged in teaching, research, and enterprise. You will be educated to doctoral level, and have a proven track record of attracting externally competitive research funding, publications, and research student supervision. Working with Faculty colleagues you will have proven ability to inspire best practice, mentor and develop junior colleagues, whilst acting as a key leader and expert advisor. You will have experience in cultural leadership, have a strong profile in education, research and innovation and will be expected to further develop the excellent relationships that we hold with our partners across the university, Policing, Health and wider public sector organisations.
