Professor (W1 with Tenure Track to W3, § 51 LHG BW) for Condensed Matter Physics (Experiment) (m/w/d)

The University of Ulm is a leading institution in quantum science and technology, providing a stimulating environment for groundbreaking research and interdisciplinary collaborations. This includes the Faculty of Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), the Carl-Zeiss-Center for Quantum Photonics (QPhoton), the Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST), the Center for Quantum BioSciences (ZQB), the Institute for Quantum Technologies at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR-QT) and the Innovation campus Quantum BW.

We are seeking an accomplished and dynamic scientist specializing in condensed-matter physics with a focus on collective quantum phenomena. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, strong correlations, low dimensionality, topology and light-matter interactions. The ideal candidate will be ambitious, innovative and has a demonstrated ability to think outside the box. The candidate should also be collegial, sensitive to group dynamics and committed to fostering a healthy, collaborative research environment. The candidate’s research should enhance our existing network through interdisciplinary collaboration across various centers and faculties.

The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in experimental physics for physicists and for other disciplines. Experience in interdisciplinary studies is desired; likewise, active participation in academic responsibilities, administrative tasks and initiatives is expected.

The position is initially offered for a term of 6 years as a non-tenured W1 professorship and temporary civil servant (Beamter auf Zeit) or employee. If the evaluation is positive, appointment to a tenured W3 professorship will be offered. Requirements for a later transition to a W3 professorship are defined in the Ulm University Statute on Quality Assurance in Appointing and Evaluating Tenure-Track Professors of 21 November 2018 and the subject-specific prerequisites for this professorship (www.uni-ulm.de/evaluation_criteria_TTPhysik).

Conditions for appointment are an appropriate university degree, pedagogical aptitude, a doctorate and additional academic achievements according § 47 LHG. At the end of this six-year W1 professorship at the latest, the tenure track will lead to continued employment as a tenured W3 university professor, provided that a tenure evaluation establishes that the necessary aptitude, competence and academic performance have been demonstrated.

Employment requirements are completed university studies as well as teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and further pertinent scientific achievements (§ 47 LHG). Licensure as a Psychological Psychotherapist or Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist is required.
