The Research and Evaluation Division of Public Health Wales is recruiting to the role of Public Health Researcher. The purpose of the role is to support the development and coordination of the climate change research-agenda across Public Health Wales and with our partners. The post holder will work to strengthen collaborations with the research community, identify and map out research priorities and interdisciplinary opportunities, and coordinate bid development and impactful research.

The Research and Evaluation Division are an experienced multi-disciplinary team, who work collaboratively across Public Health Wales and with external academic and partner organisations. We are keen to extend our research links with national and international partners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a key role in helping to identify, steer and manage climate change research-activity and collaborative partnerships with the aim of accelerating the shift towards more joined-up and impactful research, which fit with PHW priorities, as well as developing new partnerships, networks and consortia in this area.

The post holder will map, environment scan and prioritise climate change research needs and develop a comprehensive overview and analysis of research activity. The post holder will be involved in supporting the development of research bids and expertise across the sector, including supporting applicants with research governance and approvals processes for applications and awards.

This post will help to deliver the Public Health Wales approach to research and development, in support of PHWs' long-term strategy and the Research and Evaluation Strategy.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Evidence of knowledge of core Public Health competencies at masters level or equivalent
  • Higher Degree with a strong research component
  • Evidence of higher level study in climate change / health behaviour change or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • PhD in related field
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant demonstrable experience leading to highly developed specialist knowledge in research applied to public health
  • Experience of playing a leading role in a major research project
  • Experience of securing research funding through a competitive process
  • Experience of developing academic collaborations and partnerships

  • Experience of work in public health in a specialist service or academic setting
  • Experience of mixed methods research
