Research Assistant in Integrated Photonic Systems
About the role
The successful candidate will work alongside the research team and collaborators on defining key performance indicators (KPI) and developing photonic integrated circuits and test measures as well as explore applications in microwave and optical communications. The research work builds upon the research team’s expertise on low-noise signal processing and the state-of-the-art facilities established within UCL Institute of Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS).
The postholder will participate in the design and development of PIC-based low-noise laser and frequency combs and their applications in microwave and photonic systems.
This post is available from November for 24 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available. The salary range is UCL Grade (£38, - £41, per annum, inclusive of London Allowance).
About you
The successful applicant should have a MRes in Photonics or similar. Knowledge and hands-on experimental experience of photonic integrated circuit design and testing is essential, as well as knowledge of laser physics, nonlinear optics, distortion and noise from electronic and optoelectronic devices.
The successful candidate will possess programming skills in MATLAB or Python, for automated result acquisition, data processing and data analysis.
Knowledge of low noise optical/electronic signal generation, analysis and processing to enable high speed data transmission and sensing is desirable, as well as hands-on experience with design, test, and development of integrated comb sources and PIC-based subsystems.
