Research Assistant/ Research Associate in Health Economics (Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for up to 3 full-time Research Assistants/Research Associates* in Health Economics to work in the Primary Care Unit in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC).
The main purpose of these posts is to undertake health economic evaluations. Two of the posts will contribute to research studies funded by the NIHR, CRUK and ACED to evaluate innovations for the early detection of cancer. One will contribute to an evaluation of interventions for screening and early diagnosis of bowel cancer within CRUK's TET programme. The other will contribute to an evaluation of breast cancer risk assessment within the CRUK-funded CanRisk programme and the ACED-funded PREVENT-Breast study. Both post-holders will contribute to activities within the new NIHR Policy Research Unit in cancer awareness, screening and early diagnosis. The third post-holder will contribute to health economic evaluations being conducted for the NIHR-funded CONCORD2, PLUS and PHOSPHATE studies. Research interests in any area of health economics are encouraged, but given the duties of the posts, skills and expertise in undertaking cost-effectiveness modelling to evaluate value for money are essential.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Contribute to/lead the development of health economic models to evaluate health care/population health interventions.
Collect/lead the collection of health economic data with the wider research teams to populate these models.
Assist in the production of health economic measures of the kind typically used by NICE when making their recommendations.
Contribute to/lead the writing of health economics research outputs individually and in collaboration with others, including publishing in internationally leading journals.
Applicants should possess a degree (Research Assistant) or PhD (Research Associate) in health economics or a related discipline and be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following:
Undertaking health economic modelling
Ability to produce health economic measures of the kind typically used by NICE
Using statistical packages (e.g., Stata and MS Excel)
Knowledge of the UK National Health Service
The funds for these posts are available for two years from commencement in post.
These are full-time positions.
*Appointment at Research Associate level (grade 7) is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant level (grade 5) and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
