Your mission

  • RA primarily to the Managing director and Chief Scientist (CS), and secondarily to other PhD-qualified Senior Scientists in the firm;

  • Preparation and submission of peer-reviewed papers to scientific journals on behalf of Chief Scientist et al.
  • Handling of peer-reviewer comments from journals;
  • First pass (then supervised) peer-reviewing of other workers scientific papers on behalf of the MD/CS;
  • Scientific literature reviews;
  • Data preparation, entry, and management;
  • Creation and maintenance of databases (including Microsoft Excel); 
  • Statistical analyses of biological datasets
  • Statistical modelling abilities (GAM, GLM etc.); 
  • Analysis of Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) footage;
  • Analysis of SONAR/RADAR?/InfraRed footage, especially of marine mammals and fish;
  • Generation of figures for presentations, reports, and publications;
  • Creation of maps in QGIS; 
  • Organisation of research sourced from journals and repositories;
  • Entry of publications into referencing software (EndNote);
  • Generation of content for social media, websites, and posting; and,
  • Carry out any duties which your line manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.

Your profile

Required:

  • Legally permitted to work in UK prior to employment;
  • Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science/marine biology);
  • Offshore fieldwork experience (e.g. MMO/PAM/Environmental Scientist);
  • Excellent written, numerical, and verbal-communication skills;
  • High level knowledge of Microsoft products ( e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.);
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritise effectively, achieving results against tight deadlines;
  • Genuine interest about the business, and industry; and,
  • Commercially aware, discreet, and able to handle sensitive information.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of environmental surveys (e.g. water & sediment sampling, etc.);
  • Published previously in  peer-reviewed journal;
  • Stock control and testing of PAM and other oceanographical equipment;
  • Potentially working offshore as MMO & PAM Operator;
  • Day-to-day administration; 
  • MMO, and PAM training;
  • Offshore survival certifications (e.g. BOSIET & medical); and,
  • Full, clean UK drivers’ licence.
