We are seeking a part time research assistant to join an active academic pain department with a strong link in neuromodulation. There will be an opportunity to learn programming and develop a career in academic and industry partnership. Our research assistants have been successful in obtaining industry placements. This post is designed for graduates who can demonstrate outstanding potential for development and contribute towards academic neuromodulation program

Main duties of the job

The Pain Research Centre at Barts Health NHS Trust has received funding from various investigator-initiated trials for the ongoing research activities in the field of pain medicine including neuromodulation. Academic Pain is supported by a strong team of consultants, research assistants, nurses and admin staff.

This is a part time Band 5 NHS post; 3 days a week (pro rata), for 12 months. The post may be extended pending on satisfactory appraisal, successful further grants and research committee approval. The post holder will work with the PARC team and be accountable to Dr Vivek Mehta, Director, Pain Research Centre, ensuring that the aims and ethos of the centre are fulfilled. The day to day, line management will be with Dr Kavita Poply, Deputy Director and Honorary Senior Lecturer, QMUL.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Desirable criteria

  • Postgraduate degree and/or relevant professional qualification and/or equivalent professional experience in a biomedical or related subject
  • Statistical qualification
  • Bio-medicine experience
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Ability to organise and communicate including organising meetings and taking meeting minutes
  • Proven computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and literature searches.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of Research Governance issues and principles of ICH-GCP
  • Ability to problem solve, think analytically, identify priorities and take initiative.
  • Developed a knowledge of higher education institution (HEI) and National Health Service (NHS) infrastructure.
