Research Associate in Cancer Biology

We are seeking for a motivated and experienced Cancer Biologist or Scientist to join our team to develop novel treatments and translate discovery research into practical applications for diagnosing and treating cancer.

This position is funded by the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) within , co-led by Professor Anthony MJ Bull and Professor George Hanna.

The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse range of translational research projects within the Theme, including biomarker discovery, non-invasive diagnostic devices, and the explant-in-chip technology for personalised drug treatment.

Reporting to Professor George Hanna, Head of Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London, the successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary colleague from the BRC Biomedical Engineering Theme, BRC Surgery & Cancer Theme, Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre, NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) In-Vitro Diagnostics, Patient Experience Research Centre, Imperial Clinical Trials Unit and beyond.

A PhD in a relevant field, excellent problem-solving skills, a robust work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential for this role.


  • Study all stages of cancer mechanisms and treatment resistance.
  • Contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
  • Develop preclinical models and test new mechanism-based drugs and treatments on cells, tissues, and organoids.
  • Manage multiple collaborative projects simultaneously, as assigned by the Theme.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of early clinical trials.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, Immunology or an equivalent field.
  • Hands-on experience in cancer research.
  • Practical experience in cell and tissue culture.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to organise own work with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
