Research Associate in Cell-Matrix Structural Biology

Publicerad 2024-10-31

A postdoctoral research associate position funded by the BBSRC is available to study the molecular organisation and function of fibrillin-integrin interactions by solving the structure of the fibrillin-integrin complexes using cryo-electron microscopy. This project will use cutting-edge structural biology approaches to study these complexes to understand how integrin engagement and downstream signalling response varies on fibrillin substrates of different stiffness. This project will capitalise on previous research in the Baldock lab that has characterised the structure and interactions of fibrillin and fibrillin microfibrils.

The Baldock laboratory is based within the Wellcome Centre for Cell-Matrix Research containing many vibrant research groupings and located in a modern research building. The Centre is itself embedded in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health at the University of Manchester. The Centre, Faculty and University collectively provide an outstanding environment (buildings, core equipment and staff) for conducting research of the highest quality.

The purpose of the role is to carry out the research described above. You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in biochemistry or related biological science, be highly motivated and experienced in cell-matrix structural biology.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
